35 Years Of Experience And Counting
As a Family Owned business, Tectonics has built over 350 homes in Central Virginia at Smith Mountain Lake and Lake Anna and in Nelson County, Bedford, Rockbridge, Augusta and Albemarle counties. Wintergreen is the hub of the wheel to our operations.
Owner and President Steve Crandall, being a second generation builder, grew up working summers on constructions jobs. He attended college at Virginia Tech studying mining engineering, but his heart has always been rooted in the building business. Steve ran a successful construction firm in Washington D.C., Maryland, and Northern Virginia, before coming to Nelson County in 1982 to start Tectonics II with his father Warren Crandall.
Just recently in the past 3 years third generation builder Justin Crandall has joined the Tectonics team as a Project Manager.
Ever since Justin started building farm structures with a hand saw at age 10 he knew he wanted to follow the family path. Justin worked his summers on construction jobs until he graduated from Appalachian State University with a Major in Building Sciences and Minor in Business.
Tectonics remains diversified while we continue to build new homes, tackle renovations on existing homes and develop both residential and commercial projects we are always searching for innovative ways of improving our building process.
Always Striving For More
Tectonics owes its success to a group of talented employees and subcontractors who continually turn out high quality homes and guarantee satisfied customers. Tectonics consist of members who have been working with the company since the early 1980’s.
We work closely with our clients to build a comfortable owner/builder relationship. Steve says, “constant effort is required by my experienced team to keep the custom home building process running smoothly”. The continual and coordinated attention of these valued employees keeps the building process running smoothly.
MEET THE TEAM
Steve likes to say that “Tectonics was green before green was cool” and in fact many of the homes are built around this concept.
